More Thirtie's Glamour Girls:Tough Edition

Platinum Bombshell Jean Harlow
Hiya Blogland!!! Today we are going to explore some more of those fabulous Thirties Movie Stars!!! The ladies I'll be sharing today all played parts with a bit of a "tough" or "hard" edge. Girl gone wrong, gun moll, bad girl with the heart of gold were some of the roles these ladies portrayed.

First up is Jean Harlow. She started out playing "trampy" roles but soon her comedic timing got her roles in many of the screwball comedies of the era. Her life was cut short at the young age of 26. During her hey-day millions of women dyed their hair to match her platinum blonde locks.
Dig those eyebrows!!
Very early before she dyed her hair platinum. Stunning dress!
Jean at her height of fame!
Next up is another Thirties star who died young. Carole Lombard was married to Clark Gable and died in 1942 at the age of 33 in a plane crash while touring to promote War Bonds.
How gorgeous is this gown!! The belt is amazing!
Her eyes are mesmerizing.
I love this lounging outfit!
I love the jeweled accents on the straps. Simple yet fetching.

Barbara Stanwyck was everyone's favorite gun moll in the 1930's. Bit of trivia--she was very longwaisted so the costume designers always designed her outfits with some kind of  seaming or belt or such at the waist to make her look more proportionate.

I adore this hat.
Notice the metallic trimming at the waist.
Sequins and pom-poms--how could this gown NOT be fantastic??
I love the print on this dress
Next up are two Thirties Superstars who had careers spanning decades. They even appeared together in movies. First up is The Queen of No Wire CoatHangers Joan Crawford.
This dress would be dazzling today on the red carpet.
I love this dress with the capelet and the giant bow. Note Joan's eyebrows are thin here.
Love the bow detail at the waist and shoulder

Another stunning gown.
Bette Davis was the other Grande Dame of cinema. Trivia about her-her bustline was a bit low and pendulous so designers would design her costumes to minimize it.
The famous cigarrette scene from Now, Voyager.
Polka dots and a cute hat made for Spring!
You can see how the designer seamed and draped the bustline here.
Love the detailing and draping of this.
I want this dress!! The print is wonderful!

Last up is the regal Norma Shearer. Norma was the Queen of the costume drama in the Thirties. Here she is in the styles of the Thirties.
I love the earrings!
The dress is marvelous and I want her hairdo!!
Another gorgeous bia-cut dress with back detailing.
This dress looks like it stepped of a Paris runway yesterday. And how can you go wrong with a mink??

I hope you've enjoyed this little view of  Thirties Movie Star fashions. I will be back on Sunday to share Thirtie's era clothing advertisements and pix of regular folk in their Thirties styles. Everyone have a wonderful weekend!!

Linking up with Tres Chic Style Bits #13 and Monday Bloom!!

Holy sequin and pom poms! (feel free to use that as the new "awesome") More beautiful photos. Would it be too much to ask today's young star's to look like this (ie, grown women)?

These were awesome! Thank you Tamera, I'd heard these legendary names, but I hadn't seen so many images nor heard the backstory on these actresses.

You have me thinking about how the "look" of famous stars has changed in several decades. One of the actresses I watched in the 90s (Gillian Anderson) was a dark horse because she wasn't as blonde, leggy, or busty as the execs wanted, but she had the classic type of beauty I see here.
