Movie Star Glamour

Myrna Loy
Hiya Blogland!! Today we are going to take a trip back to the 1930's. I grew up watching old movies starring Ginger Rogers, Myrna Loy and Claudette Colbert. I have always loved the fashions of the era. They were so elegant, even if I could only see them in black & white.  Let's revisit these 30's fashion icons!!
The immortal feather dress from Top Hat- dancing "Cheek to Cheek". The dress is actually a pale blue and Ginger helped design it.

First up is my absolute favorite--Ginger Rogers!!! I adore every movie she made with the always dapper and fabulous Fred!!
Love the bow at the neck
This could walk the red carpet today!
Just...sigh.....
So classy--her hair is stunning
I love the draping on the bodice and sleeves. And her hair is fantastic!!
Next up is the mysterious Greta Garbo:
I love the bias cut of the bodice and the lacy strap.
The bow is just amazing!
This look would work today.

Greta in the early 1930's.
I also always loved Mryrna Loy and William Powell in The Thin Man series. The screwball comedies of the 30's were funny and intelligent!
I would wear this top/dress today.
Simple--I love how the necklace hides the halter strap
The fur collar is amazing how it frames her face!
Marlene Dietrich pioneered the androgynous look. She may have wore men's clothes but she still retained her femininity. Who knew a man's shirt and necktie could be so sexy?
Gorgeous beading
Love the lace jabot & cuffs
Sexier than any bimbo today in skankwear
That hat is amazing!!
Regal & gorgeous!
The ruffle is just fantastic.
I want her top!!
Here's a still from "It happened one night" starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. Claudette Colbert is another 30's fashion icon.
How timeless is her outfit??  Her pencil skirt, sweater & blouse could walk the runway next Fashion Week.
Rocking trousers and a plaid blouse. Check out her SHOES!!
Adorable dotty ruffled dress and check out the hat!!
Gorgeous gown--I love the bodice details and the shoulder action.
This is her Cleopatra costume--which would work as a gown in real life. The bias "wrapping" effect on the torso is fabulous.
Sweet dress--I adore the neck ruffles!
THOSE GLOVES!!!
I hope you've enjoyed this little blast from the past. I'll have some 30's movie stars later this week!!! Stay tuned for Bette Davis, Joan Crawford and others!!

All of these are so great.

So many shots of them smoking. It was deemed sophisticated and sexy at the time. Now it is just dirty.

bisous

What glorious inspiration! Glamour of the highest order. I don't know anything about 1930s films so I'm looking forward to being educated. xxxx
