Houndstooth and Halloween

Hiya Blogland!!! How is everyone doing??? I'm laying low for Halloween. It's dreary and rainy outside.

I wanted to get a photo of Gracie in her candy corn dress. She isn't the camera-hog the Diva was. She's always bopping around and moving and just busy. I have several shots like this:
This was a frequent view of the Diva when she disapproved of something. Talk to the BUTT!!!

FINALLY I got an adorable shot of her!!
So must cuteness!!
Here's a selection of vintage Halloween cards. Most are from the late 1890's through the early 40's. I love the exquisite artwork.
I adore the pumpkin car in the middle!
Dig the gal on the left's owl hat!
Oh look the terrifying Halloween parrot!!
The one on the left is some weird Halloween/Thanksgiving mash-up.
I'm going to have nightmares about pumpkin gal in the middle!
These are weird. Evil Halloween CABBAGES and Satan making a menu whilst being mocked by fruit.

I was inspired by Gracey of Fashion for Giants Harlequin & Houndstooth outfit this week so I pulled out my houndstooth.
Gracey looking fabulous!
Wednesday I wore a thrifted St.JohnsBay turtleneck sweater, thrifted Aerosole maryjanes, vintage scarf, and a ponte houndstooth skirt from Walmart. I was buying some kale, bananas and almond milk and spotted it. It was love at first sight--although I wasn't sure I could fit in that size. I could and home it came with me!! I haven't been in Misses sizes in YEARS!!!

Keeping with the houndstooth theme I'm wearing a thrifted ponte skirt, thrifted belt, thrifted NineWest flats, Target tights, DIY necklace and bracelet, thrifted hat and LaneBryant top. I had a gift certificate for months and finally found something I wanted to use it on. This was another love at first sight. I just loved the bold graphicness of the houndstooth.

Here's a close-up of the hat. You can see my new purple glasses! I'm linking up with the always elegant Judith of Style Crone  for Hat Attack!!!
I'm awfully chipper looking for 5:30am!!!
I was looking through some old pictures from last year at this time. WOW--what a change!! The hair color, the size, the style. Last year at this time I only wore maxi skirts or long pants and wore baggy clothes still. now it's short(well, knee-length) and more form fitting tops. Here's what I wore around Halloween 2012:

I'm glad I have a 3 day weekend. I need to get the thanksgiving decor up outside and start organizing the Christmas hoard of decorations. I plan on being a homebody this weekend except for church!! Everyone have a fabulous weekend and I'll be back on Sunday!!

Halloween Pin-up Gals

Hiya Blogland!! Today I will be sharing  some vintage Halloween Pin-up gals. I just love how classy these are! The artwork is just gorgeous.
Some pretty glamorous witches!!!
The center one in her undies reminds me of Desiree!
Gorgeous artwork!!
More gorgeous artwork!! I adore the center picture!
Starlets from the 30's
more starlets from the 30's and 40's
From the early 30's--and the center is from around 1920.
World's FAKEST cats!!!
40's era starlets
And now to the outfit portion of our program. I was off Monday so there isn't anything fit to show as I was schlepping around the house cleaning up after an over-flowing toilet. Fun!

Tuesday's outfit features my new to me Christopher Banks Cardigan ($3) and CJBanks denim skirt ($3) with my thrifted cowboy boots. I love the drapeyness of the cardigan. I'm with Sheila--I don't care if the cool kids aren't wearing this style of cardigan anymore--I like it and I'm gonna wear it!! The bracelets are DIY. The tshirt is from Kohl's with a gift card. Anyone notice my shirt IS TUCKED IN??? Oh yes--I'm starting to tuck them in when I wear a third layer. Haven't done that in YEARS!!!

Well--I'm off for my date with my TV boyfriend Mark Harmon. Everyone have a fab evening and I'll be back on Thursday with some vintage Halloween cards!!

BTW MrBill appreciates all the sweet comments about him. He still thinks the sweater is lame but warm.

Showing a Retro vibe

Hiya Blogland!! I hope everyone has had a fabulous weekend. I've been busy getting my autumn decorating done. Seriously--I have 5 bins of autumn decorations. My fav season next to Christmas!! Pictures later this week!!

First up is today's outfit post. Everything is thrifted/gifted. I picked up the jacket at the charity shop whilst running errands yesterday for $4!! I believe it had a skirt with it originally. There's no tags in it. I wore it over an old black camisole for some modesty. It has shoulder pads and a rather 40's retro silhouette. I paired it with a thrifted ruffle hem skirt. The shoes are Clark's Artisan I thrifted for under $5 last spring. They were unworn, a beige color, and had a grease stain on them. I got some leather dye and made them black!! And of course someone had to get in the action!!

Here's a close-up of the bling. the earrings are vintage clip-ons I converted to pierced, bracelets were thrifted. The brooch is a vintage hair ornament I made into a brooch. The purse is my great-grandmother's from the 1940's. The ALG monogram stands for Anna Lillian Grimes. I treasure it!!

As I said I stopped at a couple of charity shops yesterday in town. I managed to find a few goodies!!

Another view of the jacket. It's definitely polyester and the front zips.

Polyester "silk" Chaus blouse for $3. Chaus was a big brand in the 80's for "professional" attire. I just fell in love with this print/.. I had avoided this style/brand in the past but I'm thinking I may need a few more of these!!

Russ brand rib knit tshirt with the tags still on it for $3. The stripes are a veritable rainbow of favorites. Here's a close-up:

I found another awesome tartan buttondown blouse for $3!! It's JonesNewYork and is gorgeous in it's aqua, pink and apple green glory!!

The one charity shop in town always has the nicest vintage scarves and craft/sewing stuff. I scored some 1950s-1980's Workbasket craft mags for 10 cents each. I love reading about old handiwork!

Here are some scarves. Black & white polka dots are always "in" in my book and I love the vintage pale grey and floral of the silk chiffon one!

This next scarf was the fab find #2 of the day (next to the jacket). a glorious vintage silk scarf with a FLAMENCO DANCER and a BULL FIGHTER!!!!

I'm off to take Miss Gracie a walk if I can peel her off Daddy's lap. They are watching football together!

I'm linking up with the always chic gals at Visible Monday!! and Monday Mingle!!

I'll be back on Tuesday!!

Hey it's the Hamburgler!!!

Daddy and Gracie taking a nap!!!
Hiya Blogland!!!  It's the start of another fabulous week!! First up I want to share some of the goodies I found thrifting over the weekend. Things are starting to look up as far as thrift store stock!

This is actually a sweater knit. I thought it would be great with jeans and it was only $4!!! Funny story, my friend Andrea was thrifting this weekend also--we missed each other by an hour or two at the Goodwill!! She picked this sweater up but as it was too big she put it back. I realized I could alter it to fit me so I snapped it up!!

Charcoal plaid skirt with a bit of teal in it for $3. I just had to take it in a little bit at the waist.

White cotton ribknit turtleneck by LizCaliborne for $2.75.  I'm still hunting for a black one like this.

Jessica London trapeze pearl grey thin knit sweater for $2.75. This is very similar to the striped T I wore a couple of weeks ago. I like that it's a traditional fabric/color in a unique style.

I've been on the hunt for a tartan blouse that isn't flannel. I spied this plaid knit tunic and decided why not try it on?? It's White Stag-probably late 80's and fits like a dream. Another great top for jeans.  AND it was $2.75!!!

Charcoal Grey and White button-down. I've been skipping the button-downs as they are more difficult to alter--but this fit well and was only $1.50!!

I've been buying black, white or grey bottoms--yeah I know Ms. Skittles buying neutrals-but I still have my rainbow of cardigans and tops so don't worry!!

I'm wearing the striped cardigan I recently thrifted. It's not a sweater but a ribbed cotton knit. I decided to take it in a bit more and shorten it. I'm wearing a thrifted red shell and a thrifted black with white mini-dots gored skirt. The bangles are thrifted and the pin & earrings are vintage. A co-worker said I looked like the Hamburgler!!!

This weeks Spygirl 52 Pick-Me-Up challenge is Yikes Stripes!!!! This outfit is perfect for the challenge!!

Sorry for the picture quality--I'm trying out different settings on my phone!!! One day I'll figure the stupid thing out!!

Everyone have a wonderful week and I'll be back around on Thursday!!
